The 2017 edition, our 8th annual parade was a huge success with an estimated crowd of 16 000 people in attendance to watch the parade and over 1000 people participating in the parade.
The media coverage was extensive the day of the parade with CTV News & Global News and Radio Canada, sending cameras, as well as CJAD, The Jewel 106.7, Chom 97.7, and 92.5 The Beat covering the event. Local newspapers such as L’Etoile, Premiere Edition, The West Island Gazette, The Suburban, MTL Times and Your Local Journal had extensive coverage of the event leading up to parade day, and all of them featured the parade on their front cover or had pictures of the parade the week after.
Our events leading up to the parade started quite early in the season with a packed house at The Whitlock Golf and Curling Club Queen Selection night. Ms. Olivia O’Keefe was chosen Queen of the 2017 parade while Ms. Samara O’ Gorman and Ms. Amy Lynn Waugh were chosen as her princesses. Mrs. Carol Laws was declared the 2017 Queen Mum for all her community involvement and volunteerism.
This was followed by our Grand Marshal Roast & Toast event which took place at The Whitlock Golf & Country Club. Another sold out crowd enjoyed the Bernadette Short Celtic Dancers, and a great meal provided by Whitlock GCC. People sat and listened while our Grand Marshal, Mr. PJ Stock was “honored” by many of his peers.
Our final event leading up to the parade was our Irishman of the Year dinner in conjunction with the Royal Canadian Legion. Father Rolland Demers was named the Irishman of the Year of the 2017 parade and over 170 of his friends and community raised a glass in his honour.
Without supporters like you, this parade and many events surrounding the parade cannot happen. Whether it be entering a float in the parade, purchasing space in the advertising booklet, purchasing a tickets for an Official Parade Event, or sponsoring the parade by loaning vehicles, transportation or equipment, none of this would happen without you.
We look forward to the 2018 parade which will be Saturday, March 17th, 2018.
We hope we can count on the support of all the public in making this parade the best one yet.
